Where was Mr. Schick?

Today’s class was very interesting.  I walked into the room and Mr. Schick wasn’t there.  I also forgot where I sat.  When Mr. Schick finally came to the classroom, he put Gregory in charge while he went to get his cart.  Gregory didn’t know what to do so he put Kishan in charge.  Kishan led us in the Our Father and sort of took role.  When Mr. Schick came back from getting his cart, he started to tell us why we are the best class.  Then, actually took role, and started the same lesson that we did yesterday.  The class then explained to him that we had already read A Message to Garcia and taken notes.  We then went over the words that we were supposed to look up last night and put in our blog.  It took a while to finally get the right definitions.  Later in class, we started talking about Socrates.  We discussed how and why he died and who he was.  This was probably the most interesting class so far this year!

A Message to Garcia

Before class even started, we had a little bit of confusion.  When we got to room 126, the lights were off, the door was closed, and Mr. Schick was not there.  When Mr. Schick finally got there and took role, he read us a story called A Message to Garcia. It is about a man being asked to go find Garcia and deliver a message to him.  He had to travel through the woods until he finally found Garcia.  When he did his job, he did it without any questions being asked.  It basically told us that not a lot of people do what they are asked to do without a million questions before-hand.  After that, we started talking about the phrase “survival of the fittest.”  Somehow, we ended up talking about why Mr. Schick wouldn’t be able to survive in the wilderness.  Today was the first day that we had to take notes.  At the very end of class, we were given our homework assignment.  That is why I am writing this blog.

Agora- A main spot in ancient Greek city-states; means gathering place or assembly

What the ancient Greeks meant if they called you an idiot- It meant that you were a private person.

First Day of Class

My first full class of Human Geography was very interesting.  We read the syllabus and learned about all of the rules and regulations for Mr. Schick’s class.  I feel like I finally came out of my shell and showed who I really am.  There were some extremely funny moments in class, but there were also things that we had to take seriously.  Some of the serious things were explained in a funny way.  For example, when we were told that we aren’t allowed to play games on our tablet during class, the example of Angry Birds was given.  When Mr. Schick took attendance, we had a lot of fun coming up with nicknames.  I am very glad that I get to sit in the back of the room.  Near the end of class, I asked why we had to use a composition book to take notes instead of using our tablet.  Then I found out that some people would play games instead of taking notes.  I learned a little bit more about the other students in my class.  I could tell what people have a sense of humor and what people are shy.  This class has been a lot of fun so far.  I hope it continues to be like this!

My First Day at John Carroll

My first day at John Carroll was very confusing.  At first I was really scared, but then I saw some people that I know.  I really like my schedule and my teachers.  At first, I had trouble opening my locker.  Mrs. Markel, my advisor, helped me.  After lunch, I didn’t really know where to go.  For a few classes, I walked right past the classroom that I needed to find.  Somehow, I still made it to class on time!  I was extremely happy to see a lot of people that I know from my middle school, Saint Margaret.  In some of my classes I got a big surprise!  I was not expecting to have homework before the first full day of classes.  During Introduction to the Bible, I was informed that I didn’t order one of the books that I need for class.  At the end of the day, I was glad to go home.  It was a long and draining day with a lot of new information to comprehend.  I can already tell that this is going to be an interesting year!
